Ismaël Bennacer Could Stay at Marseille: OM Push to Extend Milan Midfielder’s Loan
Olympique de Marseille are reportedly in talks to extend Ismaël Bennacer’s stay from AC Milan. The Algerian midfielder may remain at OM as negotiations continue over price and salary.
Ismaël Bennacer’s short-term future could remain in France, as Olympique de Marseille work on extending the Algerian midfielder’s loan from AC Milan. Initially brought in to add stability to OM’s midfield, Bennacer has shown flashes of quality despite recurring injury concerns.
OM were granted a €12 million option to buy Bennacer at the end of the season. However, financial restrictions and the player’s €4 million annual salary have complicated the move. According to sources close to the club, Marseille would prefer to either lower the price or negotiate another loan deal.
President Pablo Longoria and head coach Roberto De Zerbi are reportedly aligned on keeping Bennacer — but not at any cost. His injury history and limited availability in 2024 have forced Marseille to consider every aspect of the deal carefully.
Still, Bennacer’s profile remains valuable: a defensive midfielder with vision, experience in European competitions, and Ligue 1 familiarity. With the club also juggling other targets, Bennacer could still play a central role next season — especially if he agrees to reduced terms or Milan shows flexibility.
While nothing is signed yet, Marseille fans remain hopeful. A final decision is expected before the pre-season begins in mid-July.
